Behind clean air water is the most essential resource we need simply to be alive. We've all heard that we can live a week without food but only a couple days without water. But what does that mean? Lets put it in perspective. We have a 24 hour day and a huge part of the world has to travel to get to their clean source of water, some more than 2 hours. So you have 1/6 of your day gone for supplying water to yourself and simply trying to stay alive.
But let's not just talk about the the underdeveloped part of the world. The lack of water spreads to some of our own backyards. We can see a water regime in parts of California. Some creative last resort efforts being made like placing anti-reflective balls in the lakes of California to slow down the evaporation of lakes. But all of the creative ways still don't produce any more water. They are just slowing a problem down and prolonging the pain.
Another modern area that has been experiencing problems in the supply of water is Dubai and the Middle East. The geographical location in the region has left it dry and struggling for water. They have an abundance of sea water around them which is being processed into drinking water but the technology is still very new and expensive. But I believe they are on the right track.
We are known as the "Blue Planet" for a reason. That reason is that most of the earth's surface is water. It is a shame that we are running out of this precious resource that seems to be so abundant when you look at the big picture. Lets get more familiar with what's going on around the world and improve on the technologies being implemented in Dubai and many other places around the world. Learning from the innovators has been a great way to skip the prolonged learning curve and fix problems we might have in the future.
