Todays philosophical question. Should Sundays be a rest day?

in life •  8 years ago  (edited)

Traditionally Sunday was for rest and worship. But is that still the case? Now we are in the 21st Century, we find a majority of business work 7 days per week. Shops are open 7 days per week, and you can phone up most companies on a sunday. Even the HMRC are open on a Sunday!

Up until 5 years ago we'd have "Sunday Dinners" every Sunday, now we have Sunday dinners mid week or whenever we fancy it. It's just not as traditional anymore and to be honest I quite miss that.

So should Sunday be a day of rest? Or is it slowly drifting into a thing of the past?

That yorkshire pudding looks amazing.

I really miss big Sunday dinners too... when I was a kid with a big family, we'd have like 10-15 people over almost every week. It was super. Now we have only a few, but still try to at least sit down at the table together.
Rule 1: NO TV or INTERWEBS at the dinner table.

Thats really cool! I think we need to do this more!

both

I believe it is slowly drifting away, but it just depends on your schedule.

Yes sadly :-(

Yes, you are correct.

officially it should be a rest day but at the same time it should be individual's choice to rest or work...

True

I think we should have Sunday as a day of rest.

I haven't had a Sunday like that since my Grandma passed away years ago ... and yes, I still miss those times; they were special because my Grandma made them special. I don't have the energy or strength with my disabilities to carry on that tradition these days - I do my best for Canadian Thanksgiving and Christmas, and that is all I can manage usually (and also usually only with help).

Ahhhh big hugs to you :-)

Thank you! xox
