We all love a good apocalyptic movie or a tv show, don't we? It is quite interesting to learn about how the world as we know it could end and what the aftermath of it would look like.
It is also important to learn about any threats to our survival so that we can be prepared for them. After all, survival is the most basic of our instincts and it would behoove us to know about any and all dangers to us.
There are some real threats that we face that could really wipe us all out. But for the purposes of this post, let's talk about some fictional ways that could make humanity extinct and the possibility of these ever happening in reality.
Alien Invasion
Tons of movies and shows have been made about this and there are probably thousands of novels written on this topic too. The idea is simple. An alien race that is far superior to us in terms of technology and power comes to our planet for whatever reason and decides to wipe us all out.
We, being an inferior race (technologically speaking), simply cannot defend ourselves against their advanced weapons and get decimated. If we go by the movies, which wouldn't happen in real life, some hero finds an unrealistic way of defeating the alien race and sends them back.
Anyways, this scenario could happen one day in real life. Nobody knows when or how but considering that the universe is unfathomably large, it is safe to assume that there might be other advanced civilisations out there. If they are of the malevolent kind and find their way to our planet, they could attack and wipe us off for real.
Zombie Apocalypse
This one seems to be a fan favourite as the most popular show on this topic is still going on after many, many seasons already. You know which one I am talking about. Anyways, the idea here is that some virus (artificially created), gets leaked into the population which brings the dead to life. But not in a good way.
The undead are dumb maneaters who do nothing but roam around all day, eating any living thing they can find. Also, if they bite a healthy human, that human turns into a zombie too. I don't think any movie or show has ever shown a "cure" so to speak for the zombies.
Personally, I think that the zombie apocalypse will only ever exist in the fictional realm. It is difficult to imagine how a dead body can walk around and eat other people while it is rotting away at the same time. After a few days out in the open, there should be nothing left on the zombies except for their bones!!
Robot Invasion
This one is another fan favourite and is something that I have a lot of interest in as it relates to the field of technology. The idea here is that one day, robots (and the software powering them) become so advanced that they become more intelligent than us humans. In some variations, they even gain consciousness.
Regardless, they then decide that humanity is the scourge of the planet and it must be wiped off. Thus begins the work of killer robots who hunt down every single human being and finish them off.
The chances of this happening are quite real. Many experts think that AI is already advancing very fast and within a few decades, it could become as intelligent as us and maybe even surpass us. When robots become a common sight, and if they are powered by AI software, it could all lead to a robot invasion. For reals!
