One of the best (or worst) qualities of us human beings, depending on your personal outlook, is that we like things to be under our control. Evolution has developed us in a way that we like to plan things and carry them out accordingly.

From an evolutionary point of view, this ensures our survival but from the point of view of modern life, it goes beyond that. It is a means to live life the way we want to. To fulfil our dreams and desires.

But as we all know, that doesn't happen. Life is so dynamic and there are so many participants in this bigger game of human civilisation, that it is impossible to have everything under one's control.

When you are riding the highs, it feels great, even if you don't necessarily have control but when you are down in the trenches, not having control makes you feel totally helpless and you inevitably start losing hope.

A Restart

The lows of life can spark weird thoughts and feelings in you. That's because, during those times, your brain is trying to figure out any way possible to get you out of your predicament. As a result, one or two ridiculous thoughts are bound to occur as well.

One such thought that has occurred in my mind is wishing life was more like a video game. When you're playing a game or a particular level in a game, and things are not going your way, you can simply restart the level and approach it with a fresh perspective.

If the same was possible in life, how wonderful would that be? You could do so many things differently, with the necessary wisdom, all without losing time. You could virtually overcome any situation life throws at you!

In a way, we can still do that. But there are many situations that you simply can't restart and have to go through them patiently. Yes, situations like these help make you stronger and wiser but too much of them can also make you lose your sanity.

At the end of the day though, you really have no option. All you can do is apply your wits and deal with things to the best of your capability. If you give your 100%, at least you can be satisfied that you gave it your all!
