Like always I wonder :-)
Does it make sense trying to solve poverty with charity ?
Every day I see calls for help for different causes. And true some people are very unlucky in their lives and therefore have a low quality of live.
Some Pro and contra
Pro
- It can help a direct need for an individual or group
- Some people have a good feeling about donating
- Some charities create extra employment
Contra
- Lots of abuse with charity
- Its not structurally helping the problem.
- Maybe there is some natural logic behind this. Why intervening ?
Charity only lifts people out of poverty when it changes their fundamental situation, its the old adage; give a man a fish you feed him for a day, teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.
However there is more to altruism than pure charity with money. For example I run BOINC on my computers and smartphones and search for cures for diseases like AIDS, Ebola, childhood cancers and more. This kind of action starts to solve the problems, not just treat the symptoms, you can even cover costs of electric with dedicated crypto-currency #gridcoin.
I also have solar PV on my home and am part of #solarcoin, there are many people involved in that project building solar villages in the developing world and we hope SolarCoin can become a valuable resource for solar offgrid villages. You can already use SolarCoin to buy into projects like The Sun Exchange.
There are many other ways to do good things, without simply giving money.

I'm fully with you. I just think charity became an industry that completely misses his official goal.

Not a solution but just a support :)
