The golden hands of my mother

in life •  7 years ago

My mother embroidered blankets, bedclothes and others for the most part of her life, since she was a little girl. When I was a child, I saw her all the day close to the window or in the house's courtyard with other womans, while she was working with the needle and thread to create beautiful embroidered flowers. She also teached me how to d it (and in the past I loved embrodery), but I've never been good like her!

Today she gave me the blanket she embroidered for me and I was so happy to see the wonderful work she did!!! It's really an artwork!

She worked on this blancket for years, embrodering the roses with a stitch called "maiolica", an olden stitch that just few people here know how to do it. She also did by her hands the beautiful lace in crochet!

She was very proud about this blanket and she wanted to take some photos of it before to give me this wonder, so I took some pics for her (and sure, to share with you ^_^). We placed the blanked on the beds where me and my sister slept when we were children and I use my Nikon to take the pics ^_^

Isn't a wonder? ^_^

Well, it's time to sit on my sofa in relax,

see ya tomorrow!

Say hello to paolo for me @silviabeneforti

That's so beautiful @silviabeneforti. What a wonderful keepsake from your grandmother. Did she make the lace in the blanket as well?

Such a beautiful gift to give you....I am very touched by this work.

She does precise needlepoint and the crocheted part is stunning. I do both needle work (or can) and I crochet (a lot) .... this pattern she did is not quick or easy.

I like that you draped this over both beds symbolically showing your mother's care for both of her daughters.

Are you going to use it or display it?
