My best friend is a Viski

He is much older than me, 77 to be precise, but he is my best friend. From the first day I met him, he has looked after me and no matter how many times I would awaken during the night, he would rush to see if I was okay and then go and get help. He doesn't do that as much now as he has trained the parents to do their job better.

We spend a lot of time together during the day and he sits and watches me play from the couch when he is feeling lazy or worn out from his walk. It really does work out great because he has lots of toys to play with and we share those. Unfortunately though, he isn't allowed to play with my toys.

I would let him but the parents seem to think he will destroy them. He is very good though and once told a toy is mine, he will give it a sniff (maybe a little lick to taste) and then not touch it. So far, he hasn't destroyed one of my toys even though if he gets a new toy himself, it gets ripped apart in minutes.

He is always good company when I am eating too as this is somewhere I can share with him. I am not supposed to, but when I think the parents are not looking, I quietly slide some food off the table and he keeps it on the down low. Lately, I have learned that he will eat the things that I don't want to so, it is win/win although I am told I shouldn't do it.

Before I go to sleep, he will come and sit by my side, listen to the bedtime story and then leave the room. He doesn't come in to visit during the night anymore though as he knows it wakes me up. But, first thing in the morning when I wake up, he will come and poke his nose through the bars.

Every kid needs a best friend and Viski is mine. He has taught me a lot about many things already and he is very patient. When he spends a few days with the grandparents, I miss him and I am so happy when I see him again. I hope he will always be by my side.

I am getting pretty close but soon I hope I can say his name properly. It is hard with so few teeth. Viski, Viski, Viski.

I will keep practicing.
