What is your car trouble?

I want to give back to Steemit community and provide some help on something that I know very well. Cars and how to fix them.

Please ask me about your car issue. Won't go into gear. Strange sounds. Don't know if you should take your car in to the shop. Just ask.

Send me the make, model, and year along with car symptoms.

Please remember to VOTE and ReSteem

hi @socky it's me again. I'm using a Nismo 2-way LSD on my cefiro. Right now it seems like not locking at all, I'm having a hard time getting my tail sliding out. My friend said that I just need to change the oil, after that it will be tight again. It's been a year since I last changed the lsd oil (redline 75w140). Is this true?

Another test I did was jacking the car up one side. One wheel in the air and another touching the ground. I can turn the wheel in the air with my bare hands, while the other side stays on the ground. (one said, this is normal, there's a free play. Another said this means slipping)

The oil is not going to make a significant change to the way a LSD performs. You might find that some oils will aid in reducing friction and allow the clutches inside to slip a little which is not what you want, but the primary goal is reducing premature wear on those clutches.

Here is where you start.

Go call the Nismo company and ask for a technical rep. Then ask to get a procedure of how to test the clutches in their 2-way LSD. They may already have an instruction that they can email you. While you are there, ask about the correct oil and additive to use in your LSD. Each manufacturer will have a specific oil and additive that works best for their design.

After testing, you may find that the clutches are worn and need to be replaced. If you already know how to R&R the differential, replacing the clutches will be the easy job. The hard part will be installing the LSD unit. If you haven't ever swapped out the differential, I recommend going to a professional. If you don't shim and preload those differentials correctly, you can damage the ring and pinion gears.

Do you know how to get maple tree sap stains off a white car? It looks like it was the scene of a mob hit.

This will remove the sap and not damage the paint. If that sap is baked on and hard as a rock, you will need to let it soak. Don't use any sharp objects to remove it. Avoid paper towels as they can cause micro abrasion in the paint. A microfiber cloth or an old tee shirt will do.

And stop parking under that tree. :-)

Doesn't work. Nothing gets that out, tried the Goo Gone and soap and water already. I'd cut down the tree if I could.

Try isopropyl alcohol "rubbing alcohol". Let it soak with a paper towel, but don't use the paper towel to remove the sap. I haven't tired this, but hand sanitizer gel with alcohol supposedly works due to that isopropyl alcohol in it. They are usually in a gel so it stays on the sap without drying out right away.
