My New Year’s Resolutions - And Why We Usually Fail at Them

I’ve broken more than one New year’s resolution in the past. And I know why. I’ve always looked at thing very black or white. And I usually go all in at everything.

I just read this book that I loved. Too bad I can’t remember the name of it.
This guy always tried to get in shape and he always failed. He realized that what he told himself was to harsh.

I’ll exercise two hours every day

The second you fail, you’ll feel like a failure and give up.

So this guy promised himself to do one push up every day for a year.
He started off good, but this one night he went to bed and realized he hadn’t done the push up. He was super tired, but he rolled over in bed and did a very poor push up.
At least he did one! And he didn’t fail.

As a result of this he managed to do it. Some days he even did 4 or 10 push ups! And then after a while it became a part of his daily routines.

What I took away from this book is that if I set smaller goals, I’m more likely to succeed.

So, my New Year’s resolutions are:

• one hike every month

• save 5 % of my income every month

• eat one veggie or fruit every day

I think this is pretty manageable, I think planning a hike will be the most difficult to actually do.

Wish me luck!

My advice for you is to break up the goal in smaller pieces.
I also heard a podcast where a woman was talking about how she got sober. She didn’t say to herself that she would never drink again, she simple told herself:

I will not drink today

This seemed more manageable for her. Which makes a lot of sense!

Great resolutions! Have a wonderful day. Blessing ♥

Wouldn't hurt losing a couple of kilos.
Getting in better shape.
Being more outdoors.
There's a lot of things I should do..
Babysteps are definetly the way to go.

my resolutions:

• have a child
• adopt a child
• be a child ( not about ideas , about thinking )

I've tried the one fruit one day plan, I didn't stick to it. I hope to adhere to my resolutions come 2018.

The hiking part should not be as difficult as you think. Join the meetup, is the place were I can find every week a hike (I live in UK now, but I am sure is possible also someplace else). If there is not, my tip is organize a montly meetup :P and you will find that many people will join

When we say all of our wishes may not become true, we actually mean it. Some of them might will be happrni g in the near future, mabye all, who knows. Whatever we try to accomplish, we must do our best.
So i wish and truely want is in the first place to ve a better man, then see my real assets ans skill in order to improve and be happy all the time.
Let's think about things we really want and most important we need but the world needs it in us.

@susanne, one of the things that I try to do every year (and fail to do evey year) is improve my health.

For 2018, I want to

  • limit eating deserts to 1 or times a week.
  • sugary drinks to 1 or less times a day.

I would rather have manageable goals that make some impact, than goals that I will never accomplish.

I am like you @susanne ! Black and white! No grey...
I wsh you like. Start little. As the boy in your book :)
If you speak french I would have sent you my youtube channel where I talk about money and how to save money ;-)
For my side... the resolution is to practice my english with Steem. Very hard. But can be possible :)
Good luck!

That's a great goal, @susanne! The whole New Year's resolution thing seems a little ridiculous because most people don't follow through. Creating goals that are attainable, and not to crazy is a great place to be! Especially anything over and beyond is totally gold-star worthy! :)
