you always think to please someone when they ask you for something (tick)

You find it difficult to give an excuse rather you give explanations of all sorts (Double tick here)

well then comrade this post is for you,

in this post I will share a few tips on how to say no without breaking the world, feeling guilty etc.

so you are all okay with saying no to parties, movies but end up in an ugly situation if it's more of a professional request, let me tell you are not alone. It happens to me all the time and it is absolutely normal.

These handy tactics will take you a long way :

so you behave like a busy person! that's it

you were asked by John......, what I noticed is it is difficult to tell someone NO right in their face, then why cannot we ask politely that we might have to check our schedule and then get back.

what you are doing here is you are asking yourself time, time in which you can think calmly and not in the heat of the moment, once you have checked with your schedule and you are free , then you can drop in a follow up question if you are really curious or end the request by simply saying no.

I have often observed that if you were to give people a reason for your decline, they would somehow find a way to grope you in, so it is always better to not give an explanation but rather engage with them and throw up sentences like I am free next weekend , would you mind joining me for brunch , its a win-win this way, and is most certainly agreed as polite way to answer.

Offer that polite alternative

if you were really in a situation that it is important for you to yes, but it does not incline towards your goals and your heart is like really contemplating for a No - N0 then you might want to answer back with an alternative.

for example :

If you have this friend who is eager to work with you in this amazing project of yours, but you think that his involvement will only reduce the speed of work and bring down the ROI then you could engage him in another project which is easy to complete and has less burden with the deadline

if someone wants your help in their project, but you are already going nuts with the next day interview thingy of yours, then redirect them to somone else who is equally as capable and holds the same enthusiasm to help.

Do you have any tips for saying no, mention them in the comments below
