The "Will of God"

You'd think I was referring to the salvation of men or being an apostle. No. Christians today have changed the biblical usage of that phrase for their marital vocabulary. We like love and have made a fetish industry out of it. It means "life partner" "a spouse".

Have you got your "will of God?" Common church folk question. They never ask it regarding career or choice of clothes or bag or tooth paste.

'Marriage is so "eternal". A bad marriage can lead you to hell. If you miss it in marriage, you miss it everywhere else.'

We fast, pray, bind, loose, wait on the Lord, sit on Him, lie on the altar...all to get to the altar.

She is nearly 40. Men have come. Brothers in church. Christians too. Their numbers are dropping now. She hasn't "heard" or "seen" from God. Maybe He will speak tomorrow or next week. She wants a voice. She wants a vision.

"That's the way God speaks to me."

She slouches on the couch. Green...Green. Phone beeps. Gets another wedding invitation. "Oh mine, why is God doing it for others and not me?"

She consoles herself. "I want the will of God. These couples of nowadays don't know a jerk about that. I don't mind waiting"

So she is 50. Maybe God wants her to stay single. His will might have been for her not to get married. "Oh, he was speaking all the while and I was not listening"

How come she didn't ask God whether she should marry or not? Some sisters even do that.

Well, She gives up on marrying. God's will is clearer now. I will just serve the Lord.

Deep within her, she still craves for a matrimony but she has given it up for the "will of God". "

"These are the sacrifices we give for the will of God. We put our bodies in subjection..." She tells other young sisters.

"It is a personal revelation not to marry. I heard 'clearly' from God" she narrates.

Many lies. Many fraudulent conclusions. All because we misunderstand how God deals with men. We use scriptural terms out of the contexts they were picked from and make it marital. It fits. It sounds pious. It "works" for so and so bishop,elder,reverend...

Our doctrine on Marriage is from the experiences of "Men of God". Then we spiritualize it. Add God in between all their stories. Finally, we canonize it. It becomes law.

Things we do without really thinking.

Oh,I forgot. We mustn't think. It is love...it is marriage. Who thinks in such instances...especially when I can say "you are the will of God" and we will be married the next minute. Indeed!

Chai!
