So these verses are not in the Quran?:

Sura 4:89:

"They wish that you should reject faith as they reject faith, and then you would be equal; therefore take not to yourselves friends of them, until they emigrate in the way of God; then, if they turn their backs, take them, and slay them wherever you find them; take not to yourselves any one of them as friend or helper."

I don't think that could be interpreted any other way than that apostates should be killed.

What is a "doffer"?

You might not have anything against anyone or their religions, but your religion does have everything against apostasy and unbelievers. Look at the Fatwa issued against Salman Rushdie for example. Does that really sound something a "religion of peace" would do? How about sharia courts working outside the law of their respective countries? Stonings of women for adultery or some other benign issues? Throwing gays off buildings? Are these things compatible with civil societies? Cutting hands off of thieves? Really?

How is Islam not a cruel religion?
