My attempt to grow a Bonsai. Day One - planting the seeds

in life •  7 years ago

Hi all,

I have decided to try my hand at growing a Bonsai tree from seed! I have heard that Bonsai are very difficult to grow, but nevertheless, I will give it a go.

Bonsai (which translates from Japanese as "tray planting") is an art form to produce small trees that have the shape and look of large trees. They are pruned and clipped into pleasing forms and displayed in ornate trays.

The art of Bonsai, and the relative difficulty of growing the tree, can be used as a form of contemplation and meditation.

These are the coir pots (made from coconut fibre) which are bio-degradable.

Water is added to the plugs (which are also made of coir) which expand into soil.

Here are the seeds ready to be added to the pots.

They are currently sat in the sun on my kitchen windowsill. Hopefully, in a few weeks I will post photos of the seeds sprouting.
