Sharing 25+ years experience!

to marry or not.png

My wife and I were happy for twenty years. Then we met!

Marriages are made in heaven - said our elders. Two hearts united by God (do they have similar EKGs, I wonder. Should be easy to verify with modern technology isn't it? ) Cute pictures with cherubs and hearts strewn all over the happy couple - to the point that it becomes difficult to discern the happy couple sometimes!

Me, I rather abhor the symbolism of the heart indicating an emotional connection for couple of reasons. For one, the heart symbol apparently originated to indicate the lovely shape of a bent over lady's hind quarters and not really the heart. The other reason being that, though I divorced biology a long ago in school, I remember enough of it to know that emotions originate in the brain and not the heart!

We should rather be going around saying -

rather than saying the famous 'I ❤️ YOU' don't you think?

The phrase 'My heart bleeds for you' could then be equivalent to having a brain hemorrhage ! and the phrase ' My heart beats for you' could very well be a 'neurological Stroke'!!

All rather messy imagery - if you ask me...

Anyway - I digress. Let me return to the topic at hand. Instead of my usual comfort zone posts about wildlife photos, what made me get on with this rather philosophical and critical topic (perhaps even life saving for a few bachelors!!) is the following picture I came across while doing some research on lions.

The picture amply demonstrates that:

You could be a Lion but Wife is always the Boss!

What? Scared already? You should be ! (No - just kidding. Hang in there and I promise, you will see couple of greatest pros of getting married)

I know that popular folklore, memes and the experiences shared by people make marriage seem like a Herculean task for even the stouthearted ones among us. We do need to remember though, that most of these so called 'experiences' are rather exaggerated and self glorifying accounts shared by valiant husbands while their wives are not within striking distance (preferably while wives are out of earshot too).

Marriage, like anything else in this world, is a mixed bag. The 'good' and the 'not so good' go hand in hand. However, what makes marriage a good or a bad marriage is which of the 'good' or 'not so good' becomes dominant. (Hmmm.. can you sense that I am unable to actually proceed to seriously discussing pros and cons of marriage ? I am shaking like a leaf and beating around the bush. My wife is very much within striking distance you see. LOL)

Here are, in no particular order some things about marriage. I am not going to attempt to segregate them into pros and cons. Like one man's poison could be another's nectar, someone's pro could be someone else's con. So - decide for yourself.

Do think carefully about your reaction to the pros and cons below before you decide to go tie the knot (and pray that it is not a knot for the noose around your neck. Hahahaha). Guru Wild Spirit has selected these after days of deliberation and several reviews of 25+ years of married life experience!

  • You will learn to regulate your time for beer binges, sports channels and watching Baywatch! (Con you think?)

  • You will share your bed with someone at night (Pro you think?? )

  • You will remain decently dressed and with regulated flatulence (carefully released when spouse not around) even when you are not expecting company (Con you think?)

  • Neck exercises will be more of nodding 'yes dear' than the more strenuous exercise of watching those hot girls go by (which has a risk of getting a bad neck sprain)

  • Eyes will develop the ability of magically seeing beauty in a rapidly expanding persona of your spouse.

  • Term 'Treasure' will change to mean 'our precious kids' and 'having a good time' will soon mean 'hopping from leg to leg and looking attentive during shopping in expensive boutiques.

  • If you have chosen carefully, you have a friend for life, someone who is on your side all the time and someone who always has your back.

  • Free sex (at least once in a light-year). It is a matter of debate if it is actually free though. Many (not me) feel that we pay for it in many ways . LOL

  • You have someone to talk to. Not just the idiot box for company.

Dah dah dah.. You get the idea. I wish you all the best if you really came to this blog seeking advice on getting married. If you survived so far, without dying from laughing or getting bored to death, you are very resilient. That is one of the greatest qualities needed for getting married. So go on and get married guys n' gals.

In Conclusion:

Marriages are made in heaven - but sometimes they can be Hell's hot oven!

Any other thoughts on marriage?

A great sense of humor is portrayed here, it gave me a good chuckle and a huge smile. I am told I have the "dad" humor, but honestly, I think it can be the greatest! I have only been married for less than a year, but it feels I have known my husband for millennia. [I'm guessing we've had past lives together]. That wonderful yet sometimes annoying, I mean incredible best friend...[he may be in arms distance away now...]...heh...

There are many pros and cons, which I love how you highlighted them in quirky ways. It is something to be fairly serious about though because there are many ups and downs in which many people are unprepared for not just physically, but mentally and emotionally. The term "love" is not very simple and to me, it is very dynamic. To love is to be and do more than one can imagine, and sometimes it can be difficult or uncomfortable. To be able to grow with your partner can be a huge challenge, let alone being in a marriage. I do like your thought on saying "I brain you", although the heart and brain do have a physical/mental connection, so perhaps the phrase should be "I brain-love you!" I wish you all the best, thanks for this!

Thanks for your thoughtful comment and for sharing your views. I agree - love is a dynamic concept and it does get difficult sometimes to grow with someone when we are in a relationship. However, I would take the difficulties in a heartbeat (or a brain spasm ? LOL) over being lonely in my life.
