"Chicken in the Road"

At times my life seems empty, like there is a piece missing
From the middle.
I feel hollow, without purpose or
Direction.

I know that there are people who love me,
I know that I
Have abilities which I have been
Given and developed that
Allow me unique
Perspectives and Opportunities to have
Great Uplifting and Inspirational effects
For many people.

This alone should be enough to fill the void I feel.
It should, but it doesn’t always do the job.

Then,

I realize that there is a little chicken standing in the gap,
Keeping me company.
Bringing me back to earth, to know
That the pain and despair won’t last forever; with luck and
Faith I should be back
To my accustomed level of activity.
That alone will go a long way to improving my mental health.
It has been a long, dark road, but I can see some light at
The end of the tunnel, all thanks to a
Little chicken.
