The most recommended and discussed lifestyle and food, for the effects of longevity and quality of life is undoubtedly the Mediterranean: model inspired by the habits of our Cilento neighbors in the 50s, a period when we lived out of fish and more humble of the earth (whole grains, legumes, seeds, fruit, and vegetables), the preferred dairy products were cheese and yogurt, the oil was considered melted gold to be savored in meals and the meat a luxury to be enjoyed on holidays.

Nowadays, the calculated daily macronutrient levels, expressed as a percentage of total Kcal, are carbohydrates 55-60%; 10-20% protein; 30% fat. Obviously, for a person who needs a diet to lose weight, protein levels will be greater at the expense of carbohydrates and fats, because when you start a diet in addition to excess fluids you also lose lean mass and then fat mass.

So for a diet I always recommend the help of an expert who can establish the right amount of carbohydrates, avoiding to eliminate them completely with "do it yourself" diets or following the current fashion.
