Cattleya is a genus of large, colorful flower orchids, very popular, with numerous intergeneric hybrids, widely available in the trade, that exert great appeal and adapt well to mixed collections of orchids. Traditionally Cattleya was formed by about 50 species but, in 2008, had its concept extended to include species previously classified in other genera such as Laelia, and Sophronitis
