How to clone your disk even if it has badblocks!

in linux •  7 years ago

Today I received the request to change the hard drive of a large file system, advertising boards.
Of course the system is Linux, a custom version of Debian Caldera.

After the basic checks we found that the hard drive does not have many days and we need to change it. So from yesterday until today I bought a new 1 Tb hard drive. The problem was that after we started cloning, the first bugs occurred as there are some sectors that can not be read.

As you can see in the first picture the cloning command has given the error at the beginning so I switched to another application.

With the second application cloning time is longer but it works.
/dev/sdb - hard source
/dev/sda - hard destination
and file /home/rescue.log with information while cloning

I use SystemrescueCD a Linux livecd bootable from stick ( see in pictures /dev/sdc )!
