This is a Linux Public Broadcasting Network production of Red Hat's CTO Michael Tiemann's presentation at the Catfish Club in San Diego on open source software. Filmed by Ray Steding and Renu Bora. Read more about Michael Tiemann on Wikipedia.
My comments which deviate somewhat from the video subject matter: Tiemann's presentation is an important historic document because it discusses open source software at a time when media had not yet succumbed to the power of the internet. Fifteen years later we see the mainstream media powers that be at war with their weapon of the Fake News label and monetary censorship. Open source software appears to be winning the war through its power to decentralize. The flow of capital into crypto currencies now attracts wall street investment firms. The concentration of wealth of capital will flow into decentralized systems because of the same reason poor people allowed Wallmarts, Costcos, and Rite-Aids to replace small local businesses. Capital does not care about what the wealthy want any more than what the poor want, it simply flows along the path of least resistance. Therefore centralized capital will flow into decentralized systems of crypto currencies out of the same greed and blind ignorance that the poor allowed Wallmarts into their neighborhoods.
