Bodies of at least 11 Asiatic lions have been found in the Gir Forest National Park of Gujarat.
The bodies were found in the last 11 days. Officials claim that most of them died due to lung infection, while some were killed because of infighting.
It is suspected that 12 lions may have been killed in total; Officials are yet to confirm if another body, found in a severely decomposed state, is that of a lion.
The Gujarat government has ordered an investigation into the deaths of the lions.
The Asiatic lion is an endangered species and Gujarat's Gir Forest National Park is one of their last remaining habitats. As per the 2015 census, Gir is home to 523 lions.
The 11 bodies include three adult females, two adult males and six cubs.
Really sad news for the people of Gir Forest National Park of Gujarat. Hope they find the cause of their death and solution to stop further deaths.
