THE NEO CLASSICAL PERIOD (1660-1785)

Neoclassical period is a revival of the styles and spirit of classic antiquity inspired directly from the classical period. Writers of the neoclassical period tried to imitate the style of the romans and greeks. thus the combination of the terms'neo' which means' new; and' classical; as in the day of the roman and greek classical. this was also the era of the Enlightenment, which emphasized logic and reason. Rationalism,Scholarly allusions, didacticism, Adherence to classical rules, heroic couplet in poetry, no passionate lyricism, objectivity, poetic diction are the common features of this age. this age also called the age of prose and reason. alexander pope (rape of the lock, mac Flecknoe),jonathon swift( gulliver's travels). daniel defoe ( robinson crusoe) etc ae the major writings of this age,
