Dr. Jose Protacio Rizal Mercado y Alonzo Realonda known as "Jose Rizal". Born on June 19, 1861 in Calamba, Laguna. Died on December 30, 1896. Francisco Engracio Rizal Mercado y Alejandra (1818-1898) was his father and Teodora Morales Alonso Realonda y Quintos (1826-1911). Rizal was the seventh children in his family. He has nine sisters and one brother.
Rizal studied at Ateneo Municipal de Manila and graduated as sobresaliente or outstanding. He continued his study to obtain a land surveyor and assessor's degree. Upon learning that his mother was going blind. He decided to study medicine specializing in ophthalmology at the University of Sto. thomas faculty of Medicine and Surgery but did not complete the program. He studied Philosophy at the University of Sto. thomas faculty of Arts and Letter.
CONTRIBUTION:
Famous novels were Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo. He also wrote many books, letter, poem, short stories and novels.
Discovered the three species were; Draco Rizali small lizard popularly knowns as a flying dragon. The Rhacophorus Rizali, Apogania Rizali kind of beetle which earned him high praises from Europeans.
"Triumph of death over life" made by clay.He made this as a gift given to Dr. Blumentritt in 1890 in Brussel. He made many and different sculptures.
He made seven more painting "A Painting on a pair of mother pearl" made by oil.
He was the National Heroes of the Philippines and the reason why the Filipino people became aware of the evils of the Spanish rule. His death anniversary is commemorated here in the Philippines and called "THE RIZAL DAY".
