What I noticed in people is that eventhough they pretend to agree with some idea or belief, if they are put in some kind of danger, they would lose all previous beliefs and follow anything that would save their skin because people are selfish in general. They betray friends, they kill you if they knew if they don't, they would die themselves.

This is so true, and reminds me of this,

"See, their morals, their code it's a bad joke, dropped at the first sign of trouble..."

yes, if they betray you and after years you see them on the street, you realize that you have no grudges because time healed your wounds, that is when you get a really bad feeling, worse than the first one I think.
