No matter how good you are, there are always things you can’t control. Therefore, there is always a chance for us of losing a job, losing a project, or losing income. Prepare yourself for harder times with safety nets by creating multiple streams of income.
Creative streams of income
Of course, you should put aside some money every month to invest in gold, silver, index funds, and maybe Bitcoin. But besides the general investment strategies to create more income streams, there are specific additional income streams for creatives.
Create and sell templates: You don’t have new clients coming your way? Just create designs for imaginative clients and sell them on design platforms that offer templates and stock designs.
Make YouTube videos: I’ve started this project a couple of months ago. And even though, I’ve got only a handful of subscribers, the videos I’ve already published will be there forever, accumulating views and revenue for me until either I die or YouTube dies.
Produce a design learning course: I am currently considering producing my first learning course about Adobe Illustrator. Platforms like Udemy accept, market, and sell such courses for us.
Write a book: My first book about logo design is currently in the making. It will be a collection of these articles I am writing for Steemit with additional information. I can sell it easily via self-publishing on Amazon, which gives me another stream of passive income.
Be a design teacher: In real life or online. For group learning or 1-on-1 lessons. Evaluate design portfolios of other people for money and offer consulting services.
Write a blog: Steemit offers payment via crypto. Regular blogs can be used to promote your own work and make additional money with affiliate links and sponsored posts.
Start a t-shirt store: Thanks to Teespring, it has become very easy to design and sell your own shirts. Once set up correctly, you’ve got another source of income that runs passively in the background.
Branch out to different fields: I am a logo designer first, but I've worked in every design field already. On top, I’ve just started learning photography, and I am already a decent video editor. Everything we learn and add to our talent stack, increases our chances of making money.
