Oh my god, if you ever have the chance to visit London, pack your bag and go. What an amazing city, it is absolutely alive with history, people and activities. The center of government, commerce, culture, focal point of finance, a major river, shipping ports, airport and transit hubs.
There's a highway that encircles the entire city and I drove it one day. You can drive over and under the river Thames as you make your way around the city. I took hundreds of pictures on my multiple trips to the city in a vain attempt to see it all but alas I failed. If I could choose a place to live, London would be right up there with the other amazing, multicultural meccas I’ve visited or lived in. The posts which will follow are only a small portion of what I saw and don’t do the city justice but at least it will provide some insight as to what is available.
London Pass – This is a great tool for visiting the historical sites in the city. Get one, have a blast (more on this later)
Heathrow Airport – I’ve been through Heathrow more than a few times and I’ve been pleasantly surprised at how quick it is to get though customs. I’ve passed through Heathrow Airport many times heading to places in Europe or England and it is a generally well designed Airport. The last time through I cleared customs quickly and was at the rental car agency in no time at all. They must have really hustled with the luggage as it was already on the carousel when I made it to the luggage claim area.
I headed to the car rental pickup point and the bus that makes frequent stops, pulled up a few minutes after I arrived.
After my trip I found myself back in the airport and again cleared the customs point in short order. I spent some time walking through some of the stores and made some strategic purchasing decision .. er, souvenirs. The wait to depart seemed to go quick as I was busy walking around and visiting the various shops. I don’t mind flying to or through Heathrow as everything has gone smoothly each time I’ve used. it.
I took so many pictures in London I’m surprised the world didn’t run out of electrons.
More here in a bit.
