Nature, sport, water and very good vibes are unquestionably linked to surfing. Fortunately for lovers of this exciting sport, there are some beaches in the south of Spain, such as El Palmar in Cádiz, and others in the north, such as El Pantín in La Coruña, where sliding down the crest of the waves is a real pleasure.
But if you are an intrepid surfer who likes to taste new and totally different places, you can't miss this selection of the 6 places near Spain where you can enjoy your passion to the fullest:
Lisbon (Portugal): the first destination is quite close, and it is the beautiful city of Lisbon. As Portugal is a country that faces the Atlantic Ocean, the influx of waves makes this area one of the most popular surfing destinations. If you're thinking of visiting our neighbours, look out for hotels in Lisbon for March, August, September or October, as during those months you'll find the best waves all year round.
Fuerteventura (Canary Islands): although technically Fuerteventura belongs to Spain, its climate, nature and environment have nothing to do with what we can find in the peninsula. The most recommended beaches to enjoy surfing on this island are La Pared, El Cotillo and Punta del Tigre. In addition, there is a Billabong surfing school right on the beach.
Lanzarote (Canary Islands): more specifically in El Quemao, a surfing area located in the village of La Santa. Here the waves hit with great force, so it is recommended that only experienced surfers dare to taste this area of the island. However, if you have enough skill, it can be a very interesting challenge.
Bundoran Beach (Ireland): next to County Donegal we find this incredible beach absolutely perfect for surfing. In fact, it is considered one of the best in the world at the level of places like Australia or Bali. However, if you are thinking of going all the way to Ireland to see how you like to surf at Bundoran Beach, take your best wetsuit with you as the waters will be much colder than here.
Peniche (Portugal): Another of the most popular surfing areas for the Portuguese is Peniche. This area is actually a small peninsula that enters the sea, but receives some of the most spectacular waves of the entire coast of Portugal.
Lacanau (France): Located in the southwest of France, Lacanau is well known for having some of the best sand bottom pipes in all of Europe. The best time to surf in Lacanau is between summer and autumn, and the water temperature will be much more pleasant than the rest of the year.
We are sure that after reading about these surfing paradises you are willing to leave everything to go and meet them in first person with your surfboard, right? So, don't wait any longer and I'll see you in the waves!
