Finally A Nice Long Island Spring Day

Well it took long enough but we finally are enjoying a nice spring day on Long Island after what was an utterly miserable weekend. We are enjoying cloud free conditions going into this afternoon though there are some patchy clouds on the satellite picture just to our north and west. Other than those clouds sneaking in we should have a nice afternoon with temperatures topping out in the upper 60s to lower 70s. The sea breeze will come in along the immediate coast during the afternoon but there are no low clouds around so the warm May sun should dominate for the rest of the day. Spend some time outdoors in this temporary relaxation of the Seattle like pattern. Radars a quiet and will remains so until late Tuesday.

There should no issues tonight with mainly clear skies with just a few passing clouds. Lows will be in the 40s to around 50. Tuesday should see sunshine into the afternoon before a cold front approaches from the northwest. Highs will reach the upper 60s to lower 70s. The front will have a few scattered showers or a possible thunderstorm nearing tomorrow evening and then the front moves through Tuesday night stalling to our south.

The stalling front presents issues for Wednesday. First the onshore flow returns as winds turn to the northeast. Temperatures will likely top out in the upper 50s and lower 60s. Then there is the issue of clouds developing. Sometimes enough dry air comes south from New England and we sit in partly sunny skies and I believe that is possible for the first part of the day. However the moisture flow will increase as the day wears on and we suspect clouds will start rolling in during the day. Any rain or showers should hold off until later Wednesday night and on Thursday.

The main push of showers will come Thursday night into Friday as the warm front struggles northward and then a cold front pushes in from the west Friday morning. Showers and downpours are likely Thursday and Friday. Temperatures Thursday will probably be not out of the 50s with the ocean flow. Friday we should see highs up into the 60s.

As long as everything moves along we should have a dry start to the weekend with some sunshine returning on Saturday. Sunday is Mother's day and the question is whether that high holds out long enough before another cold front comes in from the west with the likelihood of a wave developing on it. I'm thinking at this early stage that Sunday starts with some sun with arriving clouds and the chance for rain later in the day or perhaps holding off until evening.
