I live in a small town in Guatemala. There is petty thievery in the town i live...so there is a little community facebook page called San Marcos Security. This photo popped up the other day... asking if anyone recognized this man who had just robbed the central bakery in broad daylight with a knife. No one could believe the audacity of this man...calls for justice and a call out to show everyone the photo so this perp could be found and punished.
A couple days later a comment says...this guy is in the center right now...he is drunk and wearing the same exact clothes.
Cops were called...witnesses went to park.
After questioning the man for sometime and with confusion....it appears the man didnt understand...he had sold the knife for 300 Quetzales (about 40$) to the blond gringa behind the counter.
The tourist had been volunteering at the bakery for a few days...she had heard of the petty robberies...so when the guy pulled out a knife and set it on the counter and spoke in Spanish....She assumed she was being robbed and so gave the money from the till. The man left the knife and rushed out with his outlandish knife earnings and went on a 2 day drinking bender....all while the tourist community frantically searched for the big bad knife robber who so politely wiped his feet before entering the bakery to make the best knife sale of his life.
