Overreacting to EVERY little irritations? Let's say our partner forgot to buy the milk, and we might grimace or make a sarcastic comment. Our little ones tracked chocolate milk on the new carpet, and then we explode. If this kind of situation happens a lot, there is a good chance that we are suffering from stored anger. This is an anger that has been living inside of us for years.
Perhaps our parents hurt us with harsh words or severe punishment. Maybe our peers made fun of us as a teenager or our boss treated us unfairly. If we've held all of these hurts inside, now all the stored anger may be showing up in our behavior slowly and little by little. The Bible wisely tells us not to let the day end when we’re still angry. In other words, we need to deal with our anger right away rather than letting it build up. It all begins by releasing our anger to God. We need to tell him about our emotions, and ask him to help us handle the situations that caused them. He can help us release the hurts from long ago and forgive those who wounded us.
Experiencing anger isn’t wrong. But as Ephesians 4 tells us, letting anger control us is wrong and can be very damaging to a relationship.
Verse2Day:
Ephesians 4:26-27
“Don’t sin by letting anger control you.” Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry, for anger gives a foothold to the devil.
Prayer2Day:
Dear Heavenly Father, sometimes I can experience anger over little things. I know I’m hurting my partner and my family, and I don’t want to do that anymore. Please forgive me. Help me to release this anger to you. Help me to figure out why I have it and then let it go the right way. AMEN.
