6th wedding Anniversary. It's still very easy to love her !

Today is my 6th wedding anniversary. And no, I did not forget ! But I was extra reminded by @whatsup's post and that prompted me to write about my own anniversary.

We had talked the passed couple of days about this upcoming event. We had decided to not do anything overly special because we love each other the whole year round, and we make sure the other knows. So there is no need to use this as an opportunity to let the our much better half know. Another reason is that we have lots of plans we want to fulfill and those cost money. Money we might now have spent out of guilt for presents we don't need. Luckily, we're not those kind of people.

How it all came to be

The joyeous day does always bring back fond memories about how I asked my wife to marry me. I'd like to share that story with you. And to start it of, you'll need to know that we Dutch people have a saying. It goes like this:

De stoute schoenen aantrekken

Which translates directly to 'To put on your brave shoes' which in turn is the same as 'To venture into the lions den' aka performing an act of bravery. So, when I asked my wife out for the first time (august 2009-ish), I told here that while cleaning my closet, I came across my 'brave shoes' and would she like to have a drink with me sometime ? She did, mission accomplished.

With that knowledge, I fast-forward >> to 2011. We had recently bought a new house and before we got the key and signed all the legal docs at the notary, we went by the property to check if it's still in the condition we agreed to buy it. It was. Just seconds after we closed the door I told my wife I needed to get back for a second cause I placed our passports we needed at the notary down somewhere.

Give me a sec. love. Be back in a flash !

The very shoes in question. These were my shoes when I as 4 or 5 years old. And yes, my mother always accused me of eating my shoes :D

Unbeknownst to her, I had secretly took my toddler shoes (which my mother had had gilded way back in the days) with me and I placed them in the centre of the empty living room of our soon to be new castle. So upon our return from the notary, key to our kingdom in hand, I let her enter the house first, out of chivalry, but more necessary because of my ploy to surprise her. Of course she could not help but notice the strategically placed shoes in the centre of the empty room. When she turned around to ask what the .... I was already down on one knee (but not out for the count) I was totally going to do this. Way passed the point of no return. In total disregard of the careful preparation, sweat was coming out of pores even the medical world had never heard of.

dear love, while packing I found my brave shoes again, I love you so much, would you be so kind as to grant me your hand in marriage ?

Luckily (and kind of anticipated) she said yes. She didn't really have much of a choise after this awesome display of love and affection, did she. I had so much fun coming up with that line and using the shoes to hark back all the way to that first date.
When we finally did marry, I told her in my vows that the best thing you can do in any relationship is to see what YOU can do for the other. And how she made it easy for me to be able to do that. She still does. I still love her very much.

Honey, I know you're going to read this sooner or later.

I LOVE YOU !
