Everything you gained in life will rot and fall apart

in love •  7 years ago

And all that will be left of you is what was in your heart.

I heard these words, spoken by Jim Carrey, over the weekend just past and I can't get them out of my head.

I often listen to motivational videos while working. When I'm writing up programs, eating, driving to and from work, sometimes even when I exercise.

That's how I stumbled upon this gorgeous sequence of 24 words.

They struck a chord, instantly. I sat upright and turned my head to look out the glass sliding door right of my desk. I stared into the abyss of my own thoughts for a while...

I've become stuck in a grind

Not a bad grind, it's a grind I love and it stems from love! I get to help others improve their fitness, their mindsets. I can encourage, inspire and support. But...

I need a bigger vision, to reach further, help more

Sunday night I made a gofundme page in hopes of getting support to feed and show loving compassion to homeless people in my nearest capital city. I will be able to meet and learn from them and spread their stories to increase compassion and tolerance in my community.

Through spreading the message in my gym, with friends (both online and in person), colleagues and a few randoms it's already raised $530. I'm chuffed with the support and know we can raise more. Every dollar raised increases the impact we can make!

However this is the start of a far larger, further reaching goal. And it's really big and scary... PERFECT!

I must be careful though. As a spiritual person I know that helping others is only a just act when it is completely selfless.

To help others so I can make money, or increasing my personal reputation will ultimately end in failure, pain and negative karma.

So now I walk the tight rope of helping for the right reason. For loving compassion, not personal gain. This gets harder as the goal gets bigger.

As I take action towards my goal I must remember

"Everything you gain in life will rot and fall apart, and all that will be left of you is what was in your heart." <3

If you would like to support our cause, you can find the gofundme page below

Tomorrow I'll share a post on what food I'll be cooking for these people, which is almost identical to one of my daily meals and incredibly nutrition so stay tuned for that!

I've already sources a portable butane cooker to take with me, thanks to a generous friend :D

More importantly though, take a moment to think of how you can best serve the world. No matter how scary it might be, or impossible it might seem. Support is everywhere if you ask :)

Yours with purpose

Great post Harry , your statement about doing an act selflessly reminds me of Kant's categorical imperative. This is especially true when it talks about using people as an end and not a means .

I'm really happy you're making a difference in this world. Little change is better than no change at all.

To help others so I can make money, or increasing my personal reputation will ultimately end in failure, pain and negative karma.

And it's great that you are also aware of this, the weak side of humans.

Keep it up, hopefully, other steemians can support you too.

The reason you've seen such massive involvement is that people know your heart and they trust your intent. I've seen people that clearly do this for their own personal gratification and it's more transparent than they would like to believe. You couldn't be that if you tried and I promise those around you won't let you fall. Keep looking ahead at the goal and all the positive impact to come from this and don't look down :)

So now I walk the tight rope of helping for the right reason. For loving compassion, not personal gain. This gets harder as the goal gets bigger.
