#7DayLoveYourSpouseChallenge (3 of 7)

in love •  8 years ago

When in 1998 a company we had invested in (and I had worked for) sold succesfully we made a good profit and decided to quit our jobs and leave for a 1-year trip.

We travelled by backpack through India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Maleisia, Thailand, Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand, United States, Guatemala, Belize, Honduras and Mexico.

Some of our family and friends visited us during various parts of our trip.

We spent hardly any money on lodging and most on adventures and good food. 😜

Some highlights: kayaking white water in Nepal, walking the Annapurna trek, motorbiking through Sri Lanka, boarding a sailingboat as crew for an ocean adventure from Bali to Singapore, buying a small truck in Australia and cruising from Darwin via the west side all the way to Sydney where we sold the truck again, camping in the fjords of New Zealand, learning Spanish in Guatemala and diving the blue hole in Belize.

When navigating the Pacific Ocean Marc manouvred the boat in line with the equator invited me for a swim and asked me to marry him. Later he explained that he had chosen this location so I would not forget it (as I suffer from bad memory 😉).

The trip expanded our views beyond all our expectations, we experienced each other in so many different and also sometimes tough situations and grew closer and closer.

And aaaaaaaah the Freedom!!!

To be cont'd.
