This is hard for me to believe being that the strongest known psychedelic (DMT) is released every night during REM sleep.

I'm very skeptical of this, the amount of LSD you need to overdose costs too much money for the recreational user to accidentally acquire.

I agree. This sounds sketchy.
I haven't found any article in which they report the symptons or any kind of details of what organ was affected by the allegedly LSD overdose.
