Previously it was called Pundravardhana or Pundranagar. Mahasthangarh was once the capital of Bengal.
There are many traces of Maurya, Gupta, Pal, Sena Empire. It is located in Shibganj upazila of Bogra district.
*Mahasthan is located on the west bank of the river Karatoya, about 5 km north of Bogra town.

Mahasthan is one of the oldest tourist destinations in Bangladesh. Every day, many people come from different places to visit the shrine and travel.
The amount of money stored in the Danbox here is about Tk 5,000 a year which is used for the salaries and other development work of the mosque's employees.
Somewhere west of the Mahasthan bus stand is the shrine of Hazrat Shah Sultan Mahmud Balkhi (RA). He is said to have landed on the back of the fish and came to Barind land. That is why he is called Mahi Sawar.
It is said that a Muslim named Hazrat Mir Borhan lived here. King Parasuram ordered his sacrifice for the son's vow to offer the cow, and Mahi Sawyer arrived to help him.
The Calidah Sea
- The western part of the median is home to the historic Kalidah Sea and the Padma Devi.
- The 'Shiladevi Ghat' is situated on the banks of the river Karatoya on the east. Shiladevi was the sister of Parasuram. Every year, Hindus are bathed here and one day is a fair.
- To the west of the pier there is a large well known as Jyutkund. It is said that the wounded soldiers of Parasuram would be healed by drinking the water of this well. Although no historical basis has been found.
Museum
- The excavations of the Mahasthan have found many deities, including various objects of Maurya, Gupta, Pal and Sena, which have been preserved in the museum north of Gara. In addition to the Mahasthan average, archaeological sites of various places are preserved here.
Living room in Behula
- About 2 km southwest of the Mahasthangarh bus stand is a Buddhist pillar believed to have been built by Emperor Ashoka. The height of the pillar is about 4 feet. On the east side of the pillar is a bathhouse, which resembles a prominent chawbaca. It is also known as Behulla Bashar Ghar.
Govinda Vita
- Govinda Vita is located right in front of the Mahasthangarh Museum. Govinda, which was excavated from 120-27, lies to the north outside the Durga Palace area in Vita.
Palace of Parasurama
- The Palace of Parasurama is one of the oldest civilization patterns discovered within the boundary wall enclosure of the historic Mahasthangarh. Locally it is known as the so-called Hindu Narapati Palace of Palace.
