Earlier today, April 24th, 2018, (MEW) MyEtherWallet sent out a warning to their followers on Twitter, mentioning that a “couple” of their DNS servers were “hijacked”. The breach of these servers was redirecting users to a phishing site and MEW is currently in the process of looking into the incident and just exactly which servers have been compromised. As MEW is claiming in a statement made this morning, they will be resolving this issue “asap”, as they work to find and verify which servers were hit by this attack. As to be expected, MEW users have remained in communication and active on the MEW Reddit page, as well as their other various social channels, waiting to attain any additional details in this matter and how they may and/or may not be affected, while some are choosing to wait until the problem is resolved.
Although MEW did confirm the that this hack did in fact occur, they remained steadfast on their denial of a DNS hack that was hurled at them by developers of Ethereum Blue (BLUE) just a few months ago, stating that it was nothing more that a “stupid lie”, however, we may all have our own reservations about that by now. Consequently, MEW is now standing in a position that several altcoins may find themselves in and have gone on to post a series of messages that are explaining a few details of today’s attack, while also calling on their community to stick together by supporting and educating one another.
As of the time of this article, the missing amount of funds from multiple user accounts has grown to reach around $365,000 and, according to TechCrunch, the actual number may indeed end up being much higher when this scandal is all said and done. This problem is something that has plagued these various areas of technology for quite a while, leaving lingering tensions and hesitations across the board for the safety that is provided by centralized cloud services.
IAGON (IAG), however, has made it a point to build the IAGON platform as a decentralized cloud space that is powered by Artificial Intelligence and Blockchain Technology, thus creating an overall safer experience for our users. Moreover, IAGON’s Secure Lake is based on the Blockchain unbreakable encryption technology, on file slicing and storage of small, anonymous and strongly encrypted slices of the original files ensures the complete protection of data files, other types of files (such as scans, photos and videos) and databases of any size and ensures the rapid retrieval and update of any stored file.
This ensures that, aside from the user who securely uploads a file and has the password (key) to retrieve and encrypt it, no one can read the contents of the small file slices, encrypt, delete, change, retrieve them, identify their source or even associate them with other file slices that are generated from the original, uploaded file. IAGON’s technology ensures that even when information systems are breached in any way, the data and files that they use cannot be accessed, deleted or modified in any way.
We at IAGON will continue to work towards a decentralized super-computer that will provide the safety and security that users have been searching for from these other, less secure centralized cloud spaces.
