Hurricanes aren't real?

I urge you to watch all 5 minutes or so of this video. This is a mainstream MAGA middle-of-the-road (for MAGA) influencer (Matt Walsh) spending 5 minutes mocking meteorology experts for being concerned about the potential for this hurricane season. It was filmed about 3 weeks ago.

I suspect that most folks here see the occasional sound-bite of MAGA influencers but don’t see enough of them to realize the absolute and utter contempt they hold for anything that resembles education or expertise.

I’m not taking Walsh out of context, and I’m not cherry picking.

The important divide in America isn’t “income” or “Trump vs. Harris”… it’s between those who understand that an objective(ish) reality exists requiring expertise to understand it… and those who don’t.

The greater potion of readers here are professionals in some technical field: attorneys, nurses, doctors, virologists, engineers, researchers, professors, programmers, etc. If you don’t step outside your bubble very often, it is easy to underestimate how much of the populace has disconnected from physical reality. When Matt Walsh tells them that meteorologists have no idea what they are doing, MAGA believes him. When Elon Musk tells MAGA that SARS-Cov-2 won’t beget a pandemic and it will all pass in a few short weeks, MAGA believes him.

I don’t know how thoroughly we can isolate ourselves from the “there is no difference between true and false” disease, but I’m convinced that we must try.

“Don’t Look Up” was a documentary.

Watch the video.
