Makeover Monday - Led Zeppelin Covers

in makeovermonday •  6 years ago
Today's #makeovermonday is going to be something a little more interesting for me. Mainly because I heard a cover of a song on my way home today and thought that I would change things up a bit for today.

These songs were popular by an infamous band: Led Zeppelin. A couple of decades ago, there was a tribute album dedicated to some of their more familiar songs and I am going to highlight just a few of the songs from that album, *Encomium: A Tribute to Led Zeppelin*, from various artists and their rendition of the song.

Some of the artists that are featured on the album include: Blind Melon, Cracker, Rollins Band, Duran Duran, Never The Bride, a duet with Robert Plant and Tori Amos and a few others, some of which I will be showcasing in this post.

So, sit back, relax, and enjoy some cover songs by an awesome band known as Led Zeppelin. I know that the band could never be topped, in my opinion, but some of the covers are actually pretty decent.

1.D'yer Mak'er as performed by Sheryl Crow. I actually think Sheryl Crow did a great job covering this song. From the sounds of the acoustic guitar, to her sultry "oh, oh, oh", it just resonates some sensuality that I never really picked up on in Zeppelin's version.

2.Misty Mountain Hop as performed by 4 Non Blondes. Sure, 4 Non Blondes may have been a "one-hit wonder" with *What's Up?", but the scruffiness in Linda Perry's voice is no surprise when she hits those notes. All in all, I think they also did a great cover.

3.Dancing Days as performed by Stone Temple Pilots. I tried to skip through the long intro to this, but if you want to see the full video, you can always backtrack to the beginning. I have been a long time fan of STP and their cover of this song, in my opinion, is also just as good and holds its own when it comes to cover songs, especially if you are covering a band as infamous as Zeppelin.

4.Hey, Hey, What Can I Do as performed by Hootie & The Blowfish. I know what you are all thinking...Hootie & The Blowfish made your list? Yup! They sure did. Take a listen and you will see why. Darius Rucker, who has moved on to become a solo country music artist, had something in his voice even back then and the band had enough courage to cover a song by Led Zeppelin. That gets major props in my book.

That wraps up today's #makeovermonday! I hope you all have enjoyed it! Is there a song on the album that you liked better that I didn't feature? Let me know!

Sincerely,
Ilsa Ione
