1.Waiting For Tonight by Jennifer Lopez. Released in 1999, I thought that this was an actual original song by Ms. J. Lo herself, but indeed it isn't. It was first recorded by a group called 3rd Party in 1997. Anyone ever hear of them before?
2.Venus by Bananarama. This song was released in 1986 but was originally released by The Shocking Blue in 1969. Who says that songs don't hold up after almost 20 years? You just have to love the 80's hair and the 80's choreography in this video!
3.Hound Dog by Elvis Presley. This was recorded by Elvis and released in 1956, however, did you know it was a cover song? I sure didn't! It was originally recorded by Mama Thornton in 1953. Willie Mae Thornton also went by the name "Big Mama" and it sounds like a more soulful sound than that of the version Elvis recorded. Hers is a more slowed down version that puts you in mind of something you would hear if you went into a Blues establishment back in the day.
- How many of these songs did you know were actually covers? Before doing my homework, I really only knew of one. Venus. But, I am curious to know how many of these three songs you knew were covers.
