Running your first mental marathon - unleash your creativity on Steemit

in makesteemitgreat-again •  7 years ago

I am a passionate advocate for Steemit to become a platform where everyone can realize their own potential (talent and individuality), but I also recognize that for new steemians this would be similar to asking someone who might never have considered running previously to participate in a marathon.

As I have written in the past, there are similarities between mental and physical fitness, so I believe that part of being able to unleash the full extent of your creativity start with a mental fitness regime, much the same way that an athlete will train and prepare themselves to run a marathon. I am not specifically referring to the exact details, but the fact that it all starts by doing the simple things and doing them well.

So what are some of these things that will help you gain greater mental fitness and ultimately help you express yourself on Steemit? I have highlighted the key points from my own personal experience as well as those that have contributed a lot to the community.

  1. Make meaningful connections - it is one thing to upvote or resteem posts, but to really engage with someone extends to making comments to add to the value of the post and all the way to a face-to-face meeting in real life.
  2. Expand your circle(s) - while it is important to be active in a tight community, the real value of steemit is being able to connect with people from different walks of life that share similar values and interests, so that the network grows in a way that fosters community and collaboration.
  3. Start conversations - it is one thing to read and absorb information, but you should also consider starting conversations to the rest of the community. This can be by posting your own thoughts and ideas, joining groups on Discord or Steemit Chat or even better still, having conversations in catch ups and meetups with other Steemians.

I think you'll find that once you starting doing each of these simple yet effective activities and slowly increase in frequency, the potential opportunities that you can explore grows very quickly. Very soon you will find yourself helping other people, joining groups and contributing to projects - posting might become something that you don't need to do as much or rely on for payout on Steemit!

But more importantly, you will find yourself wanting to try new things, push the boundary of what the blockchain system can provide, and who knows what else we can come up with. And it all starts today by taking your first steps :)

I remember being super overwhelmed with Steemit when I started, and actually I still get that way sometimes. There is just so much potential - it's like where do I start? I don't want to miss anything! lol Love your suggestions to get more connected - great advice, for all Steemians, new and old :)

nice

Good stuff @plushzilla. I think the marathon is a perfect analogy to Steemit and can especially resonant to the newbies. Iam one ( just here but been blogging for 10 yes now) but I have realized that this is NOT a sprint. I truly think that you have to put on your blinders on and don't worry about Rewards, Upvotes, Followers etc..

You just need to be patient and put out good Content and make Connections. Sincere and genuine connections.

That's what I'm doing. Right now I'm just making $cents on my blog Posts. But I know it is a process and I am in it for the long haul/ The other stuff as far as Rewards,Followers etc... will eventually take care of itself. You just need to keep on keeping on :)

Hi @roberandrew, from your comment it definitely sounds like you have been blogging for a while and that you understand the formula for success in the long term. There are plenty of people trying to help each other get a start here (#newbieresteemtoday) being one of them, and I think you have lots to contribute to the community so I look forward to reading more of your posts :)
