Getting your makeup right does not require you being a professional. Simple things you and I usually overlook can help us get the perfect look, especially now that more and more companies are beginning to cater to the makeup needs of black women.
- Know your skin tone
It is not every makeup product that is labeled ‘for dark skin’ that is meant for you. There are different ranges of black skin, so must know which is yours. Also, everyone has an undertone. For most dark-skinned ladies, it is blue.
- Buy the right foundation
This is rightly called the foundation because on it you can ‘beat your face to the perfect shape’. Usually, liquid yellow foundation will fit most black women perfectly.
- Dab and blend
Use your fingers or blender to blend foundation evenly around your eyes, cheeks, forehead, chin, and nose. After blending it gently, then use a loose brush to even it out so that all visible lines can disappear.
- Clean face
Before applying any bit of makeup, make sure your hands and face are clean and properly moisturized. When you don’t wash, properly dry and moisturize your face, it makes your makeup look splotchy.
- Go light during the day
When you apply too many makeup products on your face during the day, it may run because of the climate here; so go easy on the makeup. Choose toned-down colours for your eyeshadow and neutral colours like brown or copper as your blusher. Pink and red are an absolute no-no; they aren’t meant for our skin colour.
- Line your lips
Since we black women tend to have fuller lips, just dabbing lipstick won’t work. You would have to line them to make them appear thinner since lipstick makes the lips look more prominent. Use a lip liner and blend it properly with whatever lipstick colour you choose.
