Prophecies of Malachi: I will send my messenger, who will prepare the way before me. Malachi 3:1

Malachi developed his prophetic activity after the exile of Babylon and during the rule of the Persian Achaemenid dynasty in the holy land. Malachi denounces the sins of the people like the sin of adultery, and the corruption of the spiritual leadership, the perversion of the priestly caste:
"´For the lips of a priest ought to preserve knowledge, because he is the messenger of the LORD Almighty and people seek instruction from his mouth. But you have turned from the way and by your teaching have caused many to stumble; you have violated the covenant with Levi´ says the LORD Almighty" Malachi 2:7-8.
And faced with a hopeless situation, oppression towards the poor abounds and the sinners fare better than the righteous; the prophet Malachias anticipates in his prophecies the arrival of a new pact with God, a pact that will bring a cult in spirit and truth, that will be for all men who fear the Lord: "My name will be great among the nations, from where the sun rises to where it sets. In every place incense and pure offerings will be brought to me, because my name will be great among the nations" Malachi 1:11
Malachi prophesies the arrival of the Kingdom of God first with John the Baptist and then with Jesus: "´I will send my messenger, who will prepare the way before me. Then suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come to his temple; the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, will come,´ says the LORD Almighty" Malachi 3:1.
Malachi is frequently cited in the gospels, Jesus mentions the oracles of the prophet to explain the redemptive mission of John the Baptist, for Malachi the Kingdom of God is a promise that will come suddenly for the repentance of sins, but for Malaquias the action of the Messiah does not end here, but he will have a second coming at the end of time to judge men.
