What can be said about a man who changed the world? A whole hell of a lot! But like you young millennials I don't have time for that. So lets get to the skinny of it all-the man was a stud. Henri-Robert-Marcel Duchamp was born in a little place called Blainville in Normandy France on July 28th 1887. His destiny was to become an artist, not just an artist, thee artist. His grandfather was an engraver, his father a notary and most of his siblings were artists, his brother Raymond Duchamp Villlon was an amazing sculptor. His family was a stacked deck of visual excitement.
1912 was the year he painted his stunner Nude Descending a Staircase , and the year after he began his magnum opus, The Bride Stripped Bare by the Bachelors ,also known as the Large Glass. I absolutely love painting on glass, so he has had a large influence on myself as a painter. His two closest artistic friends were the master painter and trickster Francis Picabia and the classic mad scientist as artist Man Ray, I consider these three men as the holy trinity.
Duchamp is most well known for the invention of the readymade, or to take an object and literally will it into existence as an artwork. Everything from a bicycle wheel on a stool, to a coat rack nailed to the floor. Post Duchamp anything was possible. Everything after Duchamp flipped 720 degrees and that's a good thing....Thank you , GOODNIGHT STEEM SHOVELERS
