Histrio histrio is a frogfish leaving close to the surface among floating objects like seaweed, so rarely seen by divers.

- 1st dorsal spine differentiated into a fishing filament
- Illicium thin and shorter than the 2nd backbone
- Globular lure
- Pectoral and pelvic fins in the form of paws
- Very wide mouth
With a black and white background to give you an idea of the fish color.
This species has been seen in Cottonii seaweed culture in Indonesia.
