Grifting off a bastardized form of civic religion which marries politics and faith for convenience.

A couple of thoughts.

  1. Since eclipses are predictable, God must have carefully scheduled the motions of earth, moon, and sun so they'd happen just on the schedule on which we need to be warned. Pretty clever.

  2. When I was a young evangelical, we used to talk about our witness, meaning roughly how we lived our daily lives whether we were representing Christ well or not. Marjorie Taylor Greene is not a good witness. She is simply a vain glorious and spiteful person. But that is increasingly the mainstream of conservative American Christianity. Not only is the church losing attendees, it's attendees are increasingly un-Christlike, utterly destroying any moral authority the church might once have had.
