Market Friday at Mother Earth News Fair Part ll

in marketfriday •  6 years ago  (edited)

Today is #MarketFriday initiated by @dswigle (Denise, that's me!!) I hope you will join me as we share different markets across the globe. Every week, I look forward to seeing what you will send me and I am always happy to see so many from all over the world.

20180602_104245.jpg

Who doesn't love to see what they will be selling in some foreign market, shopping in places I have never been to and some, never even heard of? There is always a curiosity attached to foreign ingredients, different produce or any product sold. So, yes! I would love to see yours! Don't forget to take photos wherever you happen to be shopping - whether it be the grocery, art galleries, wherever money is exchanged for a service or for merchandise. Don't forget to use the hashtag #MarketFriday and @dswigle.

Please leave the link to your post on here so it can easily be found by others. They will all be in one place. Where else can you take such a quick trip around the globe? Thank you! ❤

First, there must be flowers, always flowers.
I like to start the post off right.

Today, I would like to take a moment to shoutout one of my favorite people here on steemit. @Barbara-Orenya is a joyful French artist living in an awesome beautiful city, creator of joyous life and colourful creatures, and focusing on a blissful and fun stream."

I love everything about her. I am quoting her once again when I copy her words.. She draws "Art for the cheerful heart." She lives in a most beautiful town called Annecy, in France and she photographs it in a most delightful way. She creates with her heart, the most whimsical stories and drawing imaginable.

You would be cheating yourself if you don't stop in and see her! Here

Wristbands up!! We are going back to the Mother Earth News Fair!

Woo-hoo!!

Mother Earth News 2.jpg

So, last week, we had the Rent-The-Chicken sign and I forgot to show off a couple of their products. Fine looking poultry, if I do say so myself! They made the feeders out of PVC piping. They did a few little improvements to keep the rodent populations from being overfed.

TMI? Perhaps. But, I had to hear it. So, you did too.

20180602_110031.jpg

The eggs were pretty good lookers themselves! Don't get too egg-cited!!

They were delicious! :) Just saying.

20180602_104304.jpg

Hello? Can we move on from the Rent-The-Chicken and those eggs to more interesting things... To more important things like horses and well, horses?

You looking at me?

She had the carving skills, for sure! The little-crooked spoons were for someone with arthritis. It was made so that it would be easier to grip.

Hybrid seeds are created by crossing two selected varieties, sometimes resulting in vigorous plants that yield more than heirlooms. Heirloom vegetables are old-time varieties, open-pollinated instead of hybrid, and saved and handed down through multiple generations of families. Here

So, do we use goat in it? Goat milk? I need to go back and read this one!

This is the schedule of events for the second day. It is definitely the place to go to learn all about homesteading and sustainable lifestyles. The people that attended were as helpful as the people running the seminars. Hands-on experience and already living the life. They are already self-sufficient and learning more as they go along.

Beekeeping: learn how to get started, what equipment you will need and how to care for your hives. Someday, I think I will do bees. Imagine walking out to your own jar of honey? Me too!

In the last few years, worm castings have become popular in the garden. They are filled with nutrients and minerals and are used as a soil supplement.

I am going to try them out in the garden this year. Stay tuned to see how well they do.

It was a most fabulous family outing and we learned so many things to help us become more self-sustaining. If the grid ever went down on us, wouldn't it be nice to know that we would not be completely helpless?

It's fudge! Have one!

Oh my God, no! I just haven't gotten to all of them quite yet as I am leaving for vacation tonight and I have been packing and getting ready. However, I will continue to be on and off while I'm gone period more often on but believe me you are too funny to forget.

Why the long face Denise? Wait did I read in the comments you are going on Vacation again? Vacation is your normal situation isn't it - you should be saying - I'm going to live in my house for a week.....

The wooden spoon lady is very talented, she looks like she could stir things up a little as well.

Wow those fudge sweets looks delicious, I would be definately taking a few of those home.

You can't beat fresh eggs, the oaks can be amazingly yellow as well when they are fed well.

An amazing trip you took us on again, and now go and enjoy your Vacation - see you in 6 months time!

The horse shot is awesome!

Got to say the lady carver doe nice work!

I would try a bit of all the fudge samplers!

What a fun fair.

Thank you.

Henry would be so jealous of him. He doesn't like other horse smells on me. Or dogs. Or cats. Worse than a jealous husband. :)

Fudge? Yes, please!

Tip!

Aww thank you. You are so much more than kind, and sweet ;)

Well some boys are like that, you know. They can get a bit jealous. Not that I know anything about it. I am pretty sure I am well above such behavior :) Plus the fact that I never had a jealous husband, just sayin...

That is comforting to know. 😉

Thank you!! Hehe! You ARE first!

That Rent-The-Chicken really was funny and the worms? LOL Those too. Part ll was fun even though it did rain that day. Thank you for dropping the link for me. I already went over and walked through Ace Hardware with you! I love that store!

Thank you for taking the time and effort to post to the #MarketFriday Challenge!

Thanks for sharing part 2. So many amazing things at that fair.

Free samples of fudge is how they get you! No one can just have one, or two, or just give me the entire batch!

Bee keeping while sounds like something amazing to do. It’s always sad when you hear someone hive did not make it through the winter or something got in and took them out. It is tempting to want pick up such a hobby to try and foster and bring back the bee population that has been struggling for a while now. I don’t think my neighbors would be so happy about it.

Thank you! It really was a great fair! Especially the fudge at the end! ;)

The bees? Exactly! We need to help bring/keep the population growth going until the danger is over for them. Scary thought of a world with no bees in it.

Your neighbors would love the honey!

Thanks for stopping in! Your presence is always welcome and encouraged!

I love my Heirloom seeds and I have been curious about those tower planters. I've yet to see one locally though. Mmmm, fudge, yummy! :D

Here is my #marketfriday post: https://steemit.com/blog/@debralee/58ua9j-a-marketfriday-blog

Aren't they interesting? They are very much needed by the urban dwellers. Everyone can grow!

Heirloom tomatoes grow in my garden! They are the best!

Oh, yes!! Fudge!

Everything I see in your post is very interesting to me. I think it is the market that I like the most since I read these posts. My wife wants some chicken ... for eggs! Unfortunately, my little courtyard is not good for this ... but if I could Rent-The-Chicken for a short period, for the joy of my wife!
I'm glad that today @Barbara-Orenya is the person you present here. Very nice talk about her, I totally agree with what you say!
This is my contribution to your beautiful challenge:

IMG_20180614_102541_HDR (2).jpg

It really is an interesting concept, this Rent-the-Chicken. They come with a chicken coop and they are already laying eggs, so they are ready for business! I love the fresh ones best, but, if I can get them from the farm, it is easiest that way! :)

I do love @Barbara-Orenya! I have known her since the days of TSU and she is so talented and creative!

Oh, I am off to see what you posted!! It is always a good one!

Tip!

I entered TSU on the first day when it was online. I'm sorry we did not know each other at that time.

Agreed! What name did you go by on TSU? I joined six months before they went dark and got to cash out, however, the day it went dark, I had $98.00 so missed the $100 requirement.

Can you believe I donated $5.00 one half hour before they went dark (I had $103.00 that morning) and they deducted it, leaving me short the $2.00 needed... but they didn't do any payouts.

Oh, well. Water over the bridge, yes?

I don't remember if I had an username or my real name. I must check one of my notebooks with passwords, maybe will find that with TSU. I don't remember how many money was in my account...I don't remember nothing.
Well, it was an attempt to dethrone Facebook but could not resist.

I only remember because it was an insult the way it was done, although I hold no ill feelings about Sebastian.

I was a flower person and threw my loyalty to the Flower Pictures and French Touch Channel. :)

  ·  6 years ago (edited)

You are a flower person here also. What was French Touch ? As for the insult ... there were several program trials to copy the FB but provide a reward for the activity. I was in a few, sometimes I even paid a fee but all disappeared. Steemit is the first to look more stable ...

Barbara, the one who I showcased this week. It was her Channel and it was all about France and being French.

I want to rent the chicken D. The horses nose cracked me up too. Worm castings are the best for the garden, I use them all the time. I used to have my own worm farm a few years back. lol, Great post as always.

Seriously? You had a worm farm! You are full of surprises, although anything garden should not surprise me one bit.

That Rent-The-Chicken really is funny, isn't it?

That answers my question: Are worm castings worth it? Natural really is the way to go for everything! Thank you for stopping by!

What a cool Market I really love those hand made wooden spppoons I would have picked up a few of them :)

here is my post for this week

https://steemit.com/marketfriday/@tattoodjay/market-friday-church-fair-on-the-green

There is something about those wooden spoons! I picked up a few - I would have loved a dozen, but, I got sticker shock.

But, I know a lot of work goes into one spoon, so I won't whine!

Tip!

So cool you got some I know if I saw them or similar in a fair here I would have got one

Homesteading we're always great, love to try it a big bang for home like the planting and culturing plus the worms but don't have much time for because of my infant though I'm starting to plant one plant at a time still looking forward to have more. Rent the Chicken, that's so interesting and @dswigle that's an interesting place looking at what goes on there, thanks for showing us around. Today I visited a mall to do some shopping, check out my post :https://steemit.com/marketfriday/@collinz/market-friday-goes-to-kumasi-city-mall

Those varieties of fudge looked interesting and delicious. As someone who works in physical therapy, I found the spoons for arthritis to be interesting. Hopefully I can participate in market fridays again once I have a job. =)

Love your fabulous post @dswigle ……..particularly the horse profile. Very friendly indeed. Thanks for providing lots of sustainable lifestyle tips for us to enjoy and pass on. And I couldn't think of a better way to finish your market with a delicious piece of Black Cherry Bourbon fudge. Yum! I hope you don't mind me combining two challenges into one this week by incorporating MyPictureday with MarketFriday. Have an awesome weekend.
