Here are three benefits of a marketing career

Market research, development and coordination are all part of a Career In Marketing. There are also jobs available in more niche areas such as public relations, market research, creative advertising and event planning. While marketing jobs have some advantages over other career options, there are also some drawbacks.

  • New Technology

Everette Fortner, a career counselor, wrote in August 2012 that marketing is becoming more tech-driven in the 21st century. Marketing professionals love the challenge of solving problems with data and using analytical skills to help companies market their products and services. Marketing specialists and researchers can use customer relationship software along with social media tools and analytic tools to collect and analyze data that will help them make decisions about product, customer, and promotional strategies.

  • Flexibility

Marketing professionals can develop their skills and find niches that match their passions. A marketing education provides a broad overview on all aspects of marketing. A person who isn't interested in a particular career may be able to transition into a different one. For example, a specialist in Internet marketing may be able transition to a job as an ad executive through her ability to maintain and build client relationships.

  • High Stability and Pay

Certain industries and career areas experience fluctuations in job and pay demand. Marketing is essential for companies operating in a free-enterprise environment. Although pay varies depending on the position, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that market research specialists and analysts earned an average annual salary of $67,380 in 2012. A promotion to the position of marketing manager is a great way to increase your income for highly-skilled marketing professionals. According to the BLS, these positions have an average annual pay of $129 870.

  • Drawbacks

Marketing is constantly changing, especially with the increasing use of technology to research and interact with customers, like social media. Some people find constant change difficult, especially if they are looking for niche work. Some leaders don't see marketing as an investment, which can frustrate marketing professionals. These leaders may instead look to reduce or eliminate marketing expenditures if marketers are able to prove that there is a high probability of profit and revenue in the short-term.
