After publishing the 5 tips for keeping the lettuce fresh, I was asked how to store the strawberries for longer. I really thought it was a perfect theme, since strawberries are the favorites of many, they're not cheap at all, and tend to decompose quite quickly. So I hope some of these ways will help you save the strawberries to last longer.
1. Use Mason Jars
One of my favorite methods of saving strawberries to last longer is to put them in mason jars. For this, you must choose the ones that are in good condition (don't keep the ones that are very ripe or have started to decompose), you don't need to wash them or anything, just put them inside the bottle, close it well and they can last almost two weeks. When you take them out you will notice that the twigs are a little withered, and although they can last more than two weeks without mold, I really do not recommend it because they will be very, very mature and will no longer taste good.
2. Freeze them!
If you are preparing shakes and merengadas, perhaps your best option is to freeze them. Doing this is very easy, just wash them, cut them in half or four parts (depending on your taste) and place them in a tray and then put them in the freezer. Once frozen, simply store them in a zip lock freezer bag. You can also make portions of a cup or less, to make it easier to use. Saving strawberries to last longer is a good idea and freezing them is the way to stretch your life much longer.
3. Don't use the plastic container they come in.
I think we're all to blame for putting the strawberries in the fridge in the same plastic container they come in, and it's not a very good idea. If you don't have mason jars, you can use a tupperware container, place paper towels on the bottom and strawberries on top. Put the lid on it, but don't close it completely so that the air can circulate. This method is ideal if you plan to eat them in a short time.
