"MassDebaters" Logo Concept: Debates Are Coming To Steemit -- Your Chance To Get Involved First

MassDebators Logo.jpg

With the help of a few Steemians, I have been working on bringing a series of debates to Steemit. The goal here is to set an example of how to better communicate with those you disagree with, as there are far too many examples of how not to at the moment.

It is our hope that by debating controversial subjects, clearly and concisely, without the emotions and personal attacks, we can create a library of useful resources on the Steem block chain-- ones that others will be able to view and make up their minds on difficult subjects, without being swayed by ad hominem attacks .

The debaters will each put forth a topic, and the community will vote on what they would like to see discussed. The aim is to have one debate night a fortnight, with two debates running simultaneously on Steemit, so that observers can switch between the two while waiting for responses from participants. There will also be a discord channel running at the same time as the debates so that any viewers can talk among themselves, or with debaters who are awaiting their chance to respond.

If you think you have what it takes to be a MassDebater, click the link below to join us on discord. Alternatively, if you know any of your followers to be a good candidate for this project, hit the resteem button so that we can get this invitation to them. We hope to see many of Steemit's deepest thinkers taking part.

I am so down

:) I think you would be a good addition.

Yay! Looking forward to getting those gears turning

Good to hear it. You can come here where a number of the debaters are congregating to share ideas. https://discord.gg/DAD8Tca

Cool will do

I would be so down for this

Excellent.

This is utter nonsense! How in god's name can you think of organising such a thing. Think of the children!

This sounds like a wee bit of fun :)

Lol. You had me for a moment there, I must admit.

Perfect. No one has commented on the name yet...

Whatever do you mean?

Well, you know. I already go on the internet and mass-debate too much.

Well sounds like you're a perfect candidate then. Lol.

Good luck. It's easier said than done to host civil debates on difficult topics.

Yes, I know. I'm currently working on a solution to this.

LMAO well played.

I can take all the credit.

But the problem is that nobody would care about library of useful resources.
People here vote for news, photos, quotes and inspirational messages. Sadly nobody cares about problem solving the whole system is made so that only new articles get attention meaning that even if you do great resource it would be forgotten in a week.

You're thinking too short term, mate. The blockchain is permanent. With society's declining morality, I feel such a library could be of great use to coming generations.

I agree. I'm as cynical as the next guy, but I still believe this is worth doing for the percentage of us who are truly paying attention and care about the future of our society. Even if the majority don't end up using it (and I'm not saying they won't), it can be highly valuable.

I agree it is worth doing. I'd be very interested to hear the views of some of the sage minds here on Steemit. As for only new articles getting attention, when I find an interesting blog, I often go and read all of the writer's previous blog posts.

Yeah, I'm with you. I'm under no false-illusions that this library will save the world. But, if people's grasp on morality does continue to dwindle in the coming decades, then there will definitely be some who could truly benefit from such recorded debates. Even if it is one person, it's still worth doing, for one person having a better understanding of morality effects everyone that person will ever meet in a positive way.

You just don't understand my point.
I will simplyfy it as much as I can:
This is a place where people don't care, maybe better find place where people would care?

Instead of saving one you can save one hundred.

If it is not about money ofcourse.

There are plenty of greedy cunts on here. But, there also a fair few amazing, compassionate people. They're just harder to find, but perhaps you would do well to seek them out.

Also, fuck your snide closing comment lol. If you go and look at my blog you will see just how little I earn compared to most who have reached my level, because I did care enough to talk out against those who were best in a position to reward my work.

This is not about money. I would make far more by simply creating a new account and licking some whale-arse as most others do. I have already explained what this is about, and if you don't believe it to be a good idea. Fair enough. Thanks for letting me know. But, I have given this a lot of fucking thought, and I think it's an excellent idea, so will be proceeding.

are you sure u want to host debates if you can't control yourself? Anyway enjoy your post I wont be criticizing your comments since you don't want to hear other point. Good luck with your idea but really you need more self control if you are doing this.

My message was completely fine. I addressed your comments, informed you about things you seemingly did not know, and I even thanked you for sharing your opinion. I don't know what else you expect from me given the comment, and accusation you just sent me. I feel I was far more respectful to you than you deserve for making such a presumption.

I think my self-control is pretty fucking good to be completely honest. But, I would agree that I need a lot more. As do we all.

Thanks for the wishes of luck, in spite of my suspicions of them being insincere.

No @son-of-satire is merely pointing out your narrow minded view that debates on this platform are a "waste of time" bevause "no one cares "
Do you think you've been on steemit long enough to be able to properly assess that? Prob not with a 31 rep score.

Absolutely. If you can reach even one person it's worth it.

Exactly he is thinking too short term. No offense. ...but. there is A LOT of meaningful stuff on steemit getting attention Besides the genres you mentioned @zeronumbers

We can say anything would be better if you could show.

Well it is just prediction, ofcourse do whatever you want, but I guess we just need another platform more of a wikipedia style for articles and leave steemit for photos.
There is no good way to find old article aside from search and that is not very convenient.

Hopefully, Steemit developers are working on updates and upgrades. A lot of independent programers have created awesome add-ons that help in the navigation and storage process.

Fingers crossed we'll have ways to save and highlight favorite posts in the future.

Photos are not actually stored on the blockchain, only the text is. So, I think this is the right way to go.

I do understand what you mean though. Visibility is a serious issue on Steemit, especially with such higher numbers of active users now. Posts do not last very long at all without plenty of resteems. However, there has been a great number of issues addressed during my time here, and I feel confident that this problem will also be resolved before long.

Also, we do not know what block explorers for the Steem blockchain will exist in future. But, I'm sure there will be a lot better tools for reviewing past posts than there is available currently. People seem to forget that steem is still a baby, and there is a lot more to come.

That's not true, I care very much. When I meet someone for the first time on here and like what they have to say, I go back to their older articles. There are even some people's pages that I've gone all the way back to the beginning and worked my way through them.
