I can't get my head around the inanity of removing a graphic novel about anthropomorphic mice and genocide from curriculum.

For those following the story of a Tennessee school board removing Maus from the curriculum, here is the "nudity" that the school board is using as an excuse.

They're afraid that kids will learn to not respect authority and will see "cuss" words.

The argument around "nudity" is goddamned stupid.

I re-read the whole thing this morning, and didn't even notice the naked mice and the cussing amid all the terror, the piles of bodies, and the scene where a holocaust survivor draws a map of the gas chambers for his son because he was forced to dismantle them just before liberation, and was thus one of the rare people who saw what they looked like and lived to remember.

I don't think this is about some mild cussing and non sexual cartoon nudity.
