Colorful Maze in Liquid Acrylic

Recently, I've started creating mazes.

Here's what it looks like all dry and complete.

I used this wacky maze was a way to explore some strong color combinations using liquid acrylic. The path on the darker side is terra cotta + turquoise blue. The brighter half is crimson + turquoise blue. The maze walls are yellow, olive green and forest green. Lots of intermingling color here.

At first it was tricky to wrap my mind around the basics of maze construction. After some practice, it was time to dive a bit deeper with this colorful piece of work.

Keep a lookout for more mazes to come!

In the beginning things were so simple...

Psychedelic paintings,respectos 😀

Thank you ☺

This is legit... love the wet shots you been adding lately. Do you/ someone solve all these?

I appreciate the feedback because personally I am fascinated by the way the water changes everything as it dries. That's one example of how working with traditional media doesn't compare to making digital work. You know what I'm sayin :D

I half-solved them as I drew them, didn't draw the solution path all the way through. These were great practice for making a bigger, cleaner, 100% solvable maze in the future. I'm seeing mazes like your seeing elephants!

That first shot is amazing!! Also that contrast, of the darker part and the brighter part of the maze, is really intriguing. It's really cool when you discover a new subject or idea, which leads to further exploring the possibilities. Great work on the acrylics once again! 💃

Thanks as always for your support! Exploring possibilities is the name of the game ☺

Did you use wax pencil or something to keep the colors separate from the lines?

Regardless, impressive work!

You know, it's crossed my mind a few times to bring wax into the mix. These bright acrylics would dance so well with crayons. This time however, I took my time to keep things neat (-ish). Thanks!

I used to love doing mazes when I was a kid. I always wanted to walk through an English hedge maze. Maybe someday!

As always, such patient detailed work here. How long do these take you to make?

Thank you. I made all of these over the course of a few days here and there. When I hear hedge maze, I think of The Shining...but it might be fun IRL!

Yeah, I'm more in the mood for something like this, and with no mad Jack Nicholsons:

The wife bought me a hedge trimmer for Christmas. Maybe I can make my own.

Now we're talking! That looks like an unforgettable afternoon waiting to happen.

ohhh this is very cool!! :)

Thanks!

Okay my very talented artistic friend....the colors you chose are vibrant yet peaceful and I can only imagine how cross eyed you must have been while drawing the maze trying to keep the pattern consistent.

I love puzzles and I love to solve riddles. I love scrabble and other word games.

Humble thanks! ☺

Yes, these mazes are full of little challenges in their own way. The pencil foundation was most helpful in guiding me through to the end of this one.

Ah, so you are a word nerd like me! Mazes are fun to draw, but kinda boring to solve most of the time. I enjoy playing with letters because there are so many ways they can be manipulated and grouped. Crosswords are one of my favorites, though I wouldn't call myself a pro by any means.

yes, yes....a nerd I am. I confess. It surprises some though. I'm usually surprised when they don't believe that I am a homebody, word nerd, bookworm, news junkie, crafter, photographer. Other than that, I am boring. :)

Boring, okay sure ;)
By the way, here's that iguana, now in B&W for you. Please enjoy!!

oooh...thank you. Now I have something to keep me busy for next bit. I hope this one prints out nicely. If not, I can still make it colorful.

Next time I draw something in this style I'll make the lines cleaner from the start so it's easier to color in :D

You're the best!

Very cool. I'm glad you settled on the symmetric one for now. I'm sure the other kinds are doable but most likely a ton of work!

The symmetrical layout was much easier for sure. I'll have to practice more to work my way to a more complicated maze using any kind of wet media. Thanks for stopping by ☺

Those are truly amaze-ing... I hope you put some out for us to solve. I'm sure they are fun to make, though a bit of fore-thought has to be fore-thought, eh?! The first one looks 3D in the blue area. Quite cosmic.

I would be happy to make some mazes for you all to solve! How fun. I see the cosmic resemblance too...that would be cool, a space maze. Thanks for stopping by ☺

Very nice, I love the color combinations! The maze itself looks quite technical!
As I kid I remember doing puzzles non stop, I definitely loved them. I remember getting puzzles from thrift stores and those were certainly much harder because I would finish and find about 5 pieces missing (or more). I don't do puzzles much anymore, in fact I can't think of the last time I did one. But just earlier today I was at the grocery story and I saw a Star Wars puzzle and was almost tempted to buy it and do it!

Jigsaw puzzles are another great form of active relaxation - if you have the required time they demand! I remember similar experiences of discovering missing pieces from garage sale board games. Thanks for having a look ☺
If you ever change your mind about that Star Wars puzzle, you should post about it!

If I ever get around to doing another puzzle, I will definitely post it! I remember way back in the day trying to do one of those 3D puzzles, did you ever do one of those?

I haven't put one of those together yet, although I've seen a few 3D puzzles, yes. I recall an R2D2 and a Disney magic castle, or something similar. They look really difficult!
